Before We Start…

When people talk about lumens, what is the first thing that crosses your mind? Lumens are one of the main factors to classify whether it is a good projector or a bad projector. Do you actually understand what exactly is Lumens?

We will cover these topics:

Low Lumens

High Lumens

What are Lumens?

Lumens are the measurement of brightness that a projector gives out. This gives the idea to the user about how much light can be output by the projector. So, lumens in simple terms are just measurements of the entire light (brightness) this is emitted by the source (projector).

What is ANSI?

ANSI (American National Standards Institute) lumens refer to the brightness of a projector. Historically, the ANSI standardization of lumens was devised in 1992 which specifically measures the video lumen output emitted by the projectors. The ANSI lumen is already a result of several variables like contrast and brightness. This resulting ANSI lumen measure is definitely more accurate than plain lumen and can be said that, the higher the ANSI lumens the brighter the projector.

ANSI LUMENS VS LUMENS

Without enough light output, the projector cannot display a brilliant picture. If the light output is too low, the image will appear muddy and blurry, and you can even turn down the lights in the room to compensate.
However, choosing a projector based solely on its maximum lumen rating can be misleading at some point. This is because ANSI lumens do not explicitly include other variables such as screen material, the amount of ambient light present, and other factors that can affect the brightness and clarity of a projector image.
